Day 1/10
Challenge: Post to LJ 10 consecutive days for a universe_the challenge.

Here are 3 Giles & Buffy ficlets that I wrote for another challenge over at dreamwidth (Rating PG). Set sometime in Season 5 or later.

Do you know what happened to my favorite broadsword? I distinctly remember cleaning the Krungthep blood off the blade after our last patrol before returning it to its proper place. But this afternoon, I found it on the floor behind the settee. Do you know how it got there? What is the pink, sticky substance? And more importantly why is it on the blade?

I cannot stress enough the importance of the proper care of these weapons. I do not mean to nag you Buffy, but your safety is of paramount importance to me. Please see that the sword is cleaned, sharpened and returned to its correct location.

I’m great. Thank you for asking! Note the sarcasm. I thought people from England were supposed to be like expert letter writers or something? Even I know you are supposed to start a letter asking how someone is doing. So how was England? Was meeting with the Council more fun than being a Fyarl demon?

And I don’t know how the pink stuff got on your favorite broadsword. The only weapon I used while you were away was Mr. Pointy and thanks to that nifty spell you cast on it, he never needs cleaning or sharpening. Hey, why don’t you cast that spell on all your weapons? Then you wouldn’t have to get all cranky when someone forgets to clean them.

Up for a patrol tonight? I’ve missed my Watcher and could use a little Watcher/Slayer time.

Oh, and Giles? I love you too.

You would be correct in your assertion that it is customary for someone to begin a letter with an inquiry as to the recipient’s well being. However, as I am sure you are well aware, I wrote you a note, not a letter, something that called for much less formality.

I must apologize for jumping to the hasty conclusion that it was you that had mistreated my favorite sword. Anya confessed to me this afternoon that she used it to pry open a shipping crate and then proceeded to use it to slay the demon that had stowed away amongst the merchandise. I scolded her for using such a fine blade as a prybar and for discarding it behind the settee, or as you Americans like to refer to it, the sofa. As punishment, she is forbidden from going near the money for the next month.

As for why I don’t cast a spell on all of our weapons, it is because Magic is not to be used lightly or as a substitute for a task that can easily be done manually. The spell on Mr. Pointy has many protections, the least of which is the one that keeps blood and other substances from adhering to it. But, as you say, it is the weapon you use the most, and therefore I felt it warranted a few protection spells.

I missed you too and would love to patrol with you tonight.
